The name Glacier Lagoon owes its name to the glacier which literally falls over its shore. The magnificent view of the Lake Titicaca, Sorata Valley and the Andes Mountains makes the effort worthwhile.
We leave after breakfast on a private vehicle to Sorata, picturesque village of the Larecaja province (2700 m.a.s.l.) located at the foot of Mount Illampu (6400 m.a.s.l.). In the afternoon, trek to the Caves of San Pedro (4/5 hours, round trip). Hotel accommodation
Day 2: Sorata - Lacatiya
In the morning we meet our team of muleteers and start walking out of the village. The trek initiates with a long ascent that finishes in the village of Lacatiya (4100 m.a.s.l.), where we set up our first camp. All along this day?s journey, Mount Illampu (6400 m.a.s.l.) could be seen.
Day 3: Lacatiya Chilata lagoon (4200 m.a.s.l.)
From Lacatiya, we skirt round Mount Illampu for 4 hours until we arrive at Chilata lagoon to finish this days stage. Camp.
Day 4: Chilata lagoon Glaciar lagoon (5038 m.a.s.l.) Chilata lagoon
We leave in the morning attempting to reach Glaciar lagoon (4/5 hours), named after a glacier that literally lies on its shore. Magnificent view of Lake Titicaca, the valley of Sorata and the Andes... It was worth the effort. In the afternoon, descent to our camp in Chilata lagoon.
Day 5: Chilata lagoon Sorata La Paz
Descent to Sorata in the morning. Return to La Paz on a private vehicle in the afternoon (3/4 hours). Hotel accommodation.
