Description
Mount Illampu is the most important mountain of the Cordillera Real. It is located 120 km. from the city of La Paz. The first explorations to this snowcapped mountain date from 1919 (Sir Martin Conway) and 1902 (Annie Smith Peck), although they could not reach its summit. On July 27, 1928, after several attempts and mistakes, German and Austrian Erwin Hein, Alfred Horesschowsky, Hugo Hortnagel and Hans Pfann could reach the summit.

The normal route is the only passable one (at first sight): glaciers and rock require the mountain climber a combination of stamina and intelligence.

Go Bolivia offers an itinerary of six days for people with wide experience on mountain climbing. As with Mount Illimani, climbing this mountain without a certified professional guide is not recommended.
