Description
This expedition is completely carried out inside the Sajama National Park, where you can find tombs of the Chipaya culture and fauna unique to the place: birds, such as flamingoes, duck, gulls, coots and Andean avocet, and Andean lamoids, such as llamas, alpacas, guanacos and vicuñas. Inside the Park are also the three mountains mentioned above, which we will climb progressively.

Mount Acotango is a volcano located at the border of Chile, part of the Quimsa chatas along with Mount Maria Capunata and Mount Guallatire. This trio belongs to the Sajama National Park on the Bolivian side and to the Lauca National Park on the Chilean side. Immediately after we head for Mount Parinacota, an almost perfect cone-shaped mountain with a crater on its summit, part of the Payachatas (“two sisters” in quechua native language).

The route is undemanding, however, care should be taken because of its great altitude.

We will have a day to rest and to take a walk through the zone of Sajama. The next day we will climb Bolivia’s highest mountain: Mount Sajama.

Located to the east of Bolivia in the department of Oruro and very close to the border with Chile, Mount Sajama is among the 10 highest peaks of the Andes Mountains. Located 6542 m.a.s.l. (21463 feet), Mount Sajama is only 417 meters below Mount Aconcagua (6959 m.a.s.l.).
